Mister Happy Hallowbones

Mr Happy Hallowbones Quiting This quilt comes from a pattern I picked up at store called Dee's Country Acccents while we were in Leavenworth for Rich and Angela's wedding in September, 2003. I couldn't resist! How often do you see skeletons on quilts? I started it as soon as we got home, in hopes that it would be complete by Halloween. I didn't buy a single fabric for this quilt, it was made from stuff I already had in my stash. Something I'm pretty proud of is how I adapted the kitties in the quilt so that they would look like our four cats (can you pick out who's who?). In any case, I didn't manage to finish by that Halloween (got real close... everything but the quilting). And, having lost my motivation as we neared the holidays (and Halloween became a distant memory), I set it aside.

Mr Happy Hallowbones LabelI picked it up again a couple of weeks before Halloween in 2004 in hopes that this time, I might make it. I especially like some of the quilting motifs I did-- like the bats in the sky (done with a dark, sparkly thread). I also put a pumpkin, a spider and some webs in the grassy area. The tombstones have little epigraphs. I found a couple on the Internet, but I composed a couple of them myself:

Here lay the 4 Kitties of DOOM (in honor of our special undead kitties, depicted in the quilt)
R.I.P. Would you like your possessions identified? (in homage to Keith's many hours playing NetHack)
The quilt was finished the week of Halloween. I even tried to keep the label in a festive style. I was so proud, I kept it hanging until the middle of January. :)
