Introducing Zelda!

Well, it's been one year since Tabby and Sweetie came into our lives. We swore, after one year of training, trouble and sleepless nights-- "No more kittens!" But of course, Spring came and the feral cats outside were having kittens again. As Keith and I walked up the steps on our way to dinner, he offhandedly said (all enthusiastically even), "You know, if we find another grey one, like Tabby, we should capture it!" Oh-ho!

Needless to say, of course there was a grey kitten (not quite like Tabby, but indeed gry-striped). We immediately remembered Keith's words and attempted KITTY CAPTURE!!! But-- to no avail. Little grey kitten was wily and quick! It seemed he was too old and too fast to catch.

But, we remembered our words, and debated heavily, and finally decided that we could provide a good home for another kitten. Meanwhile, our upstairs neighbors (the same people who caught and brought Sweetie to us), had caught a kitten a couple of weeks before and were having trouble finding a home for her. They were even beginning to despair of ever doing so. It seemed like fate! So we called and asked if we could take her into our family, and they said yes. And so, into our home comes this nameless upstart.

She was a tiny little six week old kitten. Her fur was black and coarse, her golden eyes bluged from her head a little, and he tail was as long as she was! She galloped like a baby tiger with her big paws on her small body, and she acted like one as well-- playful and fearless!

Tabby and Sweetie were not thrilled with this new arrangement, especially since this new addition was seemingly fearless. As soon as she came in, she bounded up to Tabby and batted him on the nose. "Hisssssss!!!!" said Tabby, and then Sweetie-- and then they both ran away. It continued such for hours... but then Sweetie finally stopped hissing, and then Tabby stopped... within a couple of days, the new kitten was playing and sleeping next to Tabby, and had a truce with Sweetie. Picture of Dobbie Gillis's Zelda She also acquired a name-- we call her "Zelda." And since I just know you're curious, this is why: she reminded me of the character by the same name in the classic television series, "Dobie Gillis." A little nerdy, but with a sense of humor, buggy eyes, and a serious attitude-- it just seemed to fit our new kitten.
